Vendor Spotlight: The Vine and Leaf

I have met Craig Laird myself, though he was not there the day I stopped in for lunch, his staff made the visit feel warm and welcoming. Running The Vine and Leaf is not Craig's only business, he also owns Royal Oak Computers just down the street, which tells you something about the kind of energy the man has.

The teas and chocolates are genuinely wonderful, and I mean that without exaggeration. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup on a lunch date there with two friends and Ace, and it was terrific, simple food done exactly right. The room itself is cozy without feeling cramped, and comfortably fits around 20 people, which is a hard number to find in a space that still feels warm instead of institutional.

The Vine and Leaf started in 2015 as a tea and chocolate shop before growing into the wine bar it is today, with over 100 wines, 70 varieties of loose-leaf tea, and gourmet chocolates and fudge. Craig steeps the tea himself, weighs it out, and sends people home with brewing instructions, the kind of personal touch that turns a purchase into an experience. Beyond the food and drink, the shop hosts Trivia Night, Paint Night with local art instructors, and wine pairing and education events, all the sorts of things that keep a small space feeling like a genuine gathering spot rather than just a storefront.
