Vendor Spotlight: Brick House Bar & Grill
I first met Chris Grady at the Tourism Summit, and I have been back to Brick House Bar & Grill three times since with my kids, including a Mother's Day gathering with my whole family and in-laws packed around the table. On that Mother's Day, Chris came over himself just to check in and see how everything was going. That is the kind of ownership that shows up when a place is more than a business to the people running it.
Brick House is Chris and Christy Grady's first restaurant, and they built it themselves, spending about eleven months renovating the building on nights and weekends while both kept working their other jobs, Chris at American Asphalt and Christy at TLC Settlements. The building itself carries its own history. It was the old Victoria's Restaurant, sitting empty since 2009, and before that a union hall where the community gathered for parties, aerobics classes, and graduation receptions. When Brick House opened, it did not just fill a vacant building, it picked up a thread the neighborhood had been missing for over a decade.
They just marked their one year anniversary with a ribbon cutting that Chamber leadership described as feeling more like a reunion than a formal event. Mayor Lori Cockrell spoke about how the Gradys have shown up for Little League and the local high schools, not just as sponsors but as neighbors who care about the kids growing up around them.
That same spirit shows up in the space itself. Downstairs opens into two huge rooms filled with booths and tables, plenty of room to spread out with a group, while upstairs holds a billiards and dart room popular enough for private bookings, including the volunteer thank you luncheon they hosted for the Phoenix Project. Both floors stay busy on their own too: live bands regularly land them in our weekly What's Happening roundups, posted every Wednesday on our social media, and the rest of the week fills out with karaoke on Tuesdays, trivia on Wednesdays, open mic on Thursdays, and live DJs and music Friday and Saturday. Kids eat free on Mondays, which says a lot about who they built this place for.
